Welcome to Finkley Weeke Nursery & Preschool — a vibrant, pack-away nursery in the heart of Weeke, Winchester, where every day starts with imagination, teamwork, and a blank canvas. Set up from scratch each morning by our passionate team, our space is purposely created to support children’s interests, development, and natural curiosity — from the ground up.
Established in 2020 and proudly award-nominated, Weeke has earned recognition for its warm, impactful approach — including a finalist in the Nursery World Awards 2025. Our team is small, dedicated, and bursting with ideas, creating a nurturing space for children aged 3 months to 5 years to feel confident, supported, and inspired to explore.
As part of the Finkley Nurseries family, our children go well beyond the classroom. We regularly visit Finkley Down Farm, where they feed the animals, collect eggs, groom Freckles the pony, and experience nature in a way books simply can’t capture. We also explore local parks, woods, and green spaces, using every opportunity to turn the outside world into an extension of our learning environment.
Back at nursery, our large outdoor garden is a firm favourite — complete with a mud kitchen, sensory pathway, bug hotel, messy play zone, and even a parking garage for budding young motorists. Indoors, children can choose from a range of rich, hands-on activities tailored to support their growth and independence.

Preschool Room
At Finkley Weeke, our Preschool Room is a vibrant, engaging space for children aged 2 to 5 years, where learning is led by curiosity, creativity, and growing independence. By bringing all our older children together in one room, we create a nurturing, community-focused environment where friendships thrive and children benefit from learning with — and from — one another.
This mixed-age approach brings real benefits. Younger children are inspired by watching and joining in with their older peers, while older children develop confidence, leadership, and empathy as they support and include the younger ones. It’s a calm, respectful dynamic that strengthens social skills and builds a genuine sense of belonging — without the disruption of age-based transitions.
Inside, the room is thoughtfully designed every day with distinct areas to spark every kind of interest: a dedicated art space for creativity and expression? A hands-on cooking and life skills zone? A cosy reading corner, and a much-loved soft play area for movement and active fun?
Children enjoy free-flow access to the outdoors throughout the day — moving between the garden and indoor space as they choose. Whether they’re exploring nature, experimenting with water play, or working together in the mud kitchen, outdoor learning is a daily part of life here.
Every child is supported to grow at their own pace, guided by the EYFS framework and the encouragement of our experienced team.
Finkley Weeke Nursery has been an amazing experience over the last 2 years. My daughter has grown leaps and bounds due to the individual care and attention she receives. Staff always recognise and highlight special moments and achievements within the week, which gives me a better understanding of Hannah's abilities outside the home.
Baby Room
At Finkley Weeke, our Baby Room is built from the ground up — literally. As a pack-away nursery, we carefully recreate the baby environment each day, ensuring it’s perfectly tailored to support the needs, routines, and interests of our youngest children aged 3 months to 2 years.
This isn’t a static space — it’s flexible, responsive, and filled with warmth. Each morning, our team creates a calm, homely setup with soft lighting, sensory-rich play areas, and cosy corners for cuddles and connection. It’s a place where babies feel safe, seen, and loved.
We’re also big believers in babies getting out into the world. Every day, our babies are taken out for walks, adventures, and fresh-air experiences — whether it’s a stroll to the park, a nature spot in the community, or just time exploring our shared garden space. We don’t wait until they’re older to start real-world learning — it begins from day one.
Our garden is shared with the toddlers and preschool but spacious, and although not privately enclosed, it offers plenty of safe opportunities for early movement, outdoor sensory play, and first encounters with the natural world.
From treasure baskets and musical play to daily chats, songs, and sensory exploration, every moment is filled with love and purpose. Our experienced team follows each baby’s home routine, ensuring consistency between nursery and family life, and forming strong, trusting relationships with both children and parents.
It’s a small space with a big heart — freshly created each day to offer a strong, gentle start.
The nursery staff were incredibly supportive when we transitioned our baby into nursery. They took the time to get to know us, followed our home routine, and made sure she was cuddled, comforted, and stimulated in equal measure. Now she runs in happily every morning. We couldn’t be more grateful!
Bertie the Bus
Meet Bertie the Bus — our very own 9-seater Mercedes Vito, fully equipped, regularly serviced, and always ready for the next nursery adventure. Based at Finkley Weeke, Bertie helps us bring learning to life outside the nursery walls — in a safe, exciting, and memorable way.
Bertie is fitted with age-appropriate car seats for every child, meaning children of all ages — from babies to preschoolers — can safely come along for the ride. Every journey is planned with care and carried out by our experienced team, so parents can feel confident their little ones are in good hands.
He’s a key part of our weekly rhythm, making regular trips to Finkley Down Farm, where children build hands-on connections with animals, nature, and the changing seasons. It’s a familiar outing our children know, love, and look forward to.
And every so often, Bertie takes us further afield — for something truly special. Whether it’s a visit to the library, an adventure in the New Forest, or even a rare trip to the seaside, these special journeys create excitement, build confidence, and help children see the world beyond the nursery.
Bertie isn’t just a bus. He’s a much-loved part of life at Weeke — a safe, reliable, and joy-filled way to discover something new.
They go on regular trips out and provide lots of photos through the app. Our kids both moved there a few months ago and things couldn't have gone better.
Outdoor Learning
At Finkley Weeke Nursery, the outdoors isn’t just part of the day — it’s where the day comes alive. We believe that children learn best when they’re outside, moving freely, engaging their senses, and exploring their environment with confidence and joy.
Our private nursery garden is a standout feature — and it’s made up of three unique sections, each designed to offer something different.
Out front, we have a massive grassed area where children can run wild, build strength, and stretch their imaginations with large-scale play. Whether it’s racing, rolling, building obstacle courses, or staging dramatic adventures, it’s a space built for movement and freedom.
To the side, we’ve created a natural exploration zone — with a mud kitchen, sensory path, and bug hotel. This is where hands get messy, minds get curious, and nature becomes the teacher. Children can mix, pour, squish, and investigate at their own pace — developing problem-solving, fine motor skills and teamwork without even realising it.
At the back, we’ve got a specially surfaced bike garden, where children can ride, scoot, race and master new physical skills on wheels. It’s safe, exciting, and confidence-building — perfect for developing coordination and balance in a fun, self-directed way.
And because we’re in Winchester, we also head out regularly to explore the local area — including nearby parks, fields and woodlands. These community trips are part of our weekly rhythm, giving children a sense of place and helping them connect to the world around them in real and meaningful ways.
Outdoor learning is key to how we teach and how children thrive. It supports physical development, emotional regulation, creativity and independence — and at Weeke, it’s not just encouraged, it’s essential.
There’s such a strong focus on outdoor play and active learning — just what we were looking for. My son has grown in confidence so much and is always excited to tell us what he’s been up to in the garden or when they’ve been out exploring.
Community Involvement
At Finkley Weeke, we believe that learning goes far beyond the nursery gates — and that true education includes compassion, connection, and a sense of community. That’s why our children are out and about regularly, getting to know the people and places that make up their world.
A standout part of our week is visiting two local care homes, where the bonds between generations grow stronger with every visit. Whether it’s sharing songs, planting bulbs, baking cakes, or simply chatting together, these moments are filled with joy, empathy, and mutual respect. In fact, the connection is so strong that residents from both care homes are invited to — and attend — our nursery graduation celebrations. It’s a testament to the meaningful relationships we build, and a moment of real pride for everyone involved.
Our older preschoolers also take part in transition visits to a local primary school, helping them prepare for the next stage of their education. These gentle, guided visits are a fantastic way to build confidence and remove the mystery from “big school” — so children feel more excited and secure when it’s time to move on.
And because we’re right in the heart of Winchester, we make the most of it — heading out to the local shops, park, post box, and other everyday places that help children understand their community and their role within it.
These aren’t just trips — they’re formative experiences. Children learn how to interact kindly, navigate safely, ask questions, offer help, and appreciate difference — all of which feeds into their social, emotional and personal development.
Community is part of who we are — and our children leave us with a deep, joyful understanding of how to care for others and be part of something bigger.
The staff truly make this nursery what it is. They create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment where children can flourish. On top of that, they offer fantastic day trips to local farms, parks, supermarkets, and nursing homes to name a few.

- Breakfast, Lunch and Tea and snacks twice a day.

Nursery Education Funding
We are approved providers of the early years educational grant for eligible 9-month-olds, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, and 4-year-olds. We will provide you with all the necessary information and parent declaration forms to complete as your child becomes eligible. However it is your responsibility to apply for your funding code from the government and renew this as required
Please note that this funding covers education only and does not include additional costs such as sundries, activities, visits, and hot meals. Therefore, an optional daily charge may apply for these extras. Details on this can be provided by the Nursery Manager.

Payment Terms
- Fees are annualised, Invoices remain the same, including when the nursery is closed for bank holidays and training days. Fees are calculated over 51 weeks, ensuring parents are not charged for the Christmas break.
- Fees are payable monthly in advance by the 1st of each month. Payments received later than the 4th of the month will incur a 10% late payment penalty.
- All fees must be paid by Direct Debit, Tax free childcare or childcare vouchers unless pre-authorised.
- All sessions contracted for must be paid for, No reductions are made for time off due to holidays, sickness or other absences. You can book additional sessions if the setting has the availability to accommodate them. Two months written notice is required if you wish to cancel your child’s place or reduce/change their sessions.
Registration & Deposit
- A non-refundable administration fee of £55 is required to register your child. This covers the costs of setting your child up on our waiting list system.
- A £100 deposit is required to hold the place. This deposit is refunded off your last bill subject to the nursery account being up to date. Should this deposit be used to hold a space where only entitlement hours are used and no optional extras or extra hours or food then it is refunded off the first full months bill.
- If the parent postpones the start date after confirmation, Finkley Nurseries reserves the right to charge from the original agreed start date.
Staff Training Closure Days
The nursery is closed for 2 formal staff training days per year. The staff training days for 2026 are Friday 24th April 2026 and Thursday 15th October 2026.
Christmas Closure Days
We close over the Christmas Period, with our last day open before Christmas being Tuesday 22nd December 2026, and we are back open on Monday 4th January 2027. The bank holiday dates during the Christmas closure are 25th December 2026, 28th December 2026 and 1st January 2027.
Bank Holiday Closure Days
The Nursery is closed for Bank Holidays. These days are chargeable. The Bank Holidays for 2026 (excluding Christmas and New Year) are as follows:

Term Time Closures
The Nursery is closed to Term Time only children on the following dates:

- Easter Holidays: Monday 30th March to Friday 10th April 2026
- May Half Term: Monday 25th May to Friday 29th May 2026
- Summer Holidays: Monday 20th July 2026 to Thursday 3rd September 2026
- Autumn Term First Day: Friday 4th September 2026
- October Half Term: Monday 26th October to Friday 30th October 2026
